Website Case Study
Flare Dance Co.
A multi-page website for a women-led Bollywood and Indian folk dance troupe in Metro Vancouver, built to show it in motion and bring in bookings.
At a Glance
Founded in 2014 as a recreational team at Simon Fraser University, Flare Dance Co. is now a women-led collective of STEM professionals in Metro Vancouver, blending semi-classical Bollywood with traditional Indian folk dance. We designed and built its full website: a home page that covers the troupe's story, services, awards and bookings, plus dedicated pages for the photo gallery, performance videos and Instagram.

The Brief
A dance troupe is booked on the strength of how it performs. The site had to bring the energy of a live show to the screen and turn that feeling into booking enquiries.
- Show the troupe in motion, through photos and performance videos, before asking anyone to book.
- Explain each service clearly, from wedding sets and first-dance lessons to custom choreography and competitive training.
- Tell the story of a women-led collective that grew out of a university dance team.
- Keep Book a Performance within reach in the navigation, the opening screen and the footer.
What We Designed
The look is a festival night after dark: deep aubergine, warm cream text and touches of gold. The home page opens on the line Dance that lights up every celebration, with two actions, Book a Performance and Watch Performances, then moves through the troupe's story, six services, awards and achievements, a gallery preview, a video section and Instagram before closing on the booking form.
For type we chose Fraunces, a warm serif with a theatrical character, and Poppins, a clean sans-serif that stays legible on dark backgrounds. The cinematic palette lets performance photographs stand out. The about section, headed A women-led collective, built on belonging, traces the troupe from a small team at Simon Fraser University to an award-winning collective of women in STEM.
Self-building gallery
Each photo folder becomes a filter chip, with images laid out in a masonry grid and opened in a lightbox.
Featured video stage
Performances play in a featured 16:9 stage with a thumbnail strip for moving between videos.
Instagram grid
Official post embeds sit in a tidy four-by-three grid on a dedicated Instagram page.
Booking enquiry form
Name, phone, email, event date, event type, location and a message, so each request arrives with the details needed to reply.
How We Achieved It
We built the gallery and Instagram pages so they can be kept current without touching the design. A new photo folder appears in the gallery as its own filter, and the Instagram page updates from a simple list of links. Deep links can cue a specific video or open the gallery on a chosen collection, so one link can point straight to one performance.
Because each video waits for a press of play before it loads, pages do not pull in every performance up front. The booking form and the footer newsletter signup, offering occasional updates on shows and workshops, both carry spam protection. Visible email addresses are obfuscated, every page has a meta description, structured data and a share image, five legal notices sit in the footer, and the copyright year updates itself.
