At a Glance

Ultra Rich List ranks the world's wealthiest people by net worth, using estimates derived from the Forbes real-time billionaires list. We designed and built it as our own site, on a single page. It opens with today's number one, the combined net worth of everyone tracked and the day's top gainer and faller, then hands over to a searchable ranking of 2,500 people showing net worth, daily change and industry.

The Brief

A rich list is only interesting if it moves. So the page needed to show who leads today, who gained and who fell, while still letting a curious reader find any one of 2,500 names.

  • Lead with the day's story: the number one, the combined total, the top gainer and the top faller.
  • Make every one of the 2,500 entries findable from one ranking, without sending readers to another page.
  • Refresh the rankings each weekday after the U.S. market close, because these fortunes follow share prices.
  • Make clear that every figure is an estimate that changes continuously.

What We Designed

We gave the list a night-time palette: a near-black background with warm ivory text and a muted gold on actions such as the subscribe button, the look of a private bank's annual report rather than a celebrity magazine. Fraunces brings a touch of ceremony to the headings, Inter handles the interface, and IBM Plex Mono keeps the net worth figures and daily changes in tidy columns.

The order of the page follows the reader's curiosity. Summary cards answer the first questions (who is number one, what the whole list is worth, who moved most today) before The Full Ranking takes over with a search box, 25 names per view and columns for net worth, today's change and industry. Up and down arrows let the direction of each move register before the amount does.

Searchable ranking

A search box reaches any of the 2,500 people tracked, with net worth, the day's change and industry in every row.

Weekday refresh

The list updates after each U.S. trading day closes, and the masthead shows the time of the latest update.

Recap newsletter

A signup offers a periodic recap of the biggest movers and milestones among the world's wealthiest.

How We Achieved It

Ultra Rich List follows our standard single-file HTML pattern, so the ranking, the summary cards and the legal overlays all arrive as one self-contained page. Net worth estimates come from the Forbes real-time billionaires list and refresh after the market closes each weekday; fortunes this large rise and fall with share prices, so the close is the natural moment to update.

Privacy, cookies, legal, accessibility and terms each open in an overlay, so nobody loses their place in the list. The contact form and the newsletter signup use Google reCAPTCHA, backed by further checks when a message arrives. Email addresses shown on the page are obfuscated against scrapers.
