Customers compare movers on price with no way to judge what differs, in a category with a serious reputation problem. Explaining how quotes are built and what coverage actually means is what separates a legitimate mover from the rest.

The visitor you are actually designing for

Somebody moving in four to six weeks, contacting several companies, comparing numbers they do not understand.

They are stressed, working to a fixed date, and have probably read about the practices this industry is known for: a low quote, a substantially higher figure on the day, and in the worst cases goods held until an inflated invoice is paid.

Which means, as in several trades, the site's job is not persuading somebody to move. It is demonstrating that you are the kind of company the stories are not about.

The pattern, and what each fault costs

No explanation of how quotes are built

Hourly against flat rate, what the hours include, travel time, crew size, and truck size.

What it costs: comparability. A customer with three quotes on different bases cannot compare them, so they compare the totals, which rewards whoever left most out.

Nothing about what makes a quote change

Stairs, elevator access and booking, distance from the truck to the door, long carries, and items requiring special handling.

What it costs: the trust, on moving day. A customer surprised by a stair charge concludes they were misled, whether or not they mentioned the stairs.

Coverage described as insurance

Basic liability by weight is not insurance and pays very little for a valuable item. Customers assume their belongings are covered for value.

What it costs: the worst possible complaint, discovered after something is damaged.

No indication of what a move costs

Ranges by home size are entirely publishable and almost never published.

The company not made verifiable

No address, no years operating, no licence or registration details, and no named people.

What it costs: exactly what the customer is trying to establish.

Nothing about what happens on the day

Arrival windows, how long a move takes, what the customer should have done beforehand, and what the crew will and will not move.

No mention of restricted items

Things movers cannot legally or practically transport, which customers discover when the truck arrives.

What the rebuild changes

  1. How quotes are built, explained plainly.
  2. Price ranges by home size and distance.
  3. What increases a quote, listed before anybody books.
  4. Coverage explained, with the difference between basic liability and full value protection.
  5. The company made verifiable, with address, registration, and years.
  6. What happens on the day, hour by hour.
  7. A restricted items list.
  8. How the final figure is confirmed, and that it will not change without agreement.

Why this wins the booking

The mechanism, stated precisely.

The customer is moving. The date is fixed, frequently by a closing or a lease, and they will hire somebody.

What they cannot do is judge the quotes, so they either take the lowest or take the one from the company that explained itself. The second happens more often than movers assume, because the fear of the low quote is widespread.

A company that explains how the number is built, and commits to it, is answering the specific anxiety, and it can win against a lower figure by doing so.

The rebuild does not create demand. It moves the decision from price alone to price and confidence.

The coverage explanation

The most important content on the site and the one most likely to be skipped.

What basic liability covers, which is typically an amount per pound and is very little for anything valuable. What full value protection costs and what it covers. What the customer's own home insurance may or may not cover during a move, which most people have not checked.

What is excluded, including items packed by the owner and anything of extraordinary value not declared in advance.

Explaining this properly loses nothing and prevents the complaint that follows a damaged item. It also positions you above companies that let the customer assume.

Regulation of household goods movers differs by province and by whether a move crosses provincial borders, with different requirements for interprovincial carriers, so naming the applicable authority is more durable than restating rules.

The estimate method

Worth stating because it signals seriousness.

A quote given over the phone from a room count is a guess. A quote given after a video or in-person survey is an estimate.

Offering a video survey, explaining that it produces a firmer figure, and stating whether that figure is binding, is a genuine differentiator against companies quoting sight unseen and adjusting later.

Checking your own

Read it as somebody moving a three-bedroom house in five weeks with three quotes in front of them.

Can they tell how your number was built. Do they know what would increase it. Do they understand what is covered if something breaks. Can they verify the company exists.

Most mover sites answer none of the four, and all four are text, which is the same access-and-weight detail that determines any logistics quote, as set out in what a courier and delivery website needs.

Frequently asked questions

What is the customer actually assessing?

Whether you are the kind of company the stories are not about. They have read about low quotes becoming higher figures on the day.

Why can customers not compare quotes?

Different bases: hourly against flat rate, different inclusions for travel and crew. So they compare totals, which rewards whoever left most out.

What should be published about price?

Ranges by home size and distance, how the quote is built, and what increases it: stairs, elevator access, long carries, and special handling.

Why does coverage need explaining?

Basic liability is typically an amount per pound and is not insurance. Customers assume belongings are covered for value and discover otherwise after damage.

What signals a serious estimate?

A video or in-person survey rather than a phone guess from a room count, with a statement of whether the resulting figure is binding.

What regulation applies?

Requirements differ by province and by whether a move crosses provincial borders, so name the applicable authority rather than restating rules that change.
